Ship Hull Inspection Services

Hull plating side scan ultrasonic testing specialists.

What we do for you.

For more than 20 years on a global basis, Gladd Solutions has delivered highly-accurate ultrasonic testing using hull plating side scans for marine corrosion surveys of hull plating for military agencies, dry dock companies, marine surveyors, and others. This provides operational confidence to vessel owners, insurance companies, and government agencies.

Our recognized ultrasonic hull plating side scan, ultrasonic and phased array nondestructive testing (NDT), marine corrosion surveys, and ASNT Level III services ensure the safety of the crew, cargo, and the environment.

Deploying a no-shortcuts, established technique of automated robotic equipment, precise readings of plate thickness across the entire hull are captured every ½-inch. A comprehensive and accurate color-coded report detailing each plate present current and potential corrosion issues providing actionable information to facilitate more control over fleet management.

We have successfully completed hull inspections for many sized vessels. No job is too big or too small.

What you can expect from us.

We deliver a competitive edge to our clients enabling them to optimize surface force readiness by making cost-effective proactive repairs to avoid emergency dry dock time. Marine Corrosion Survey & Assessment

Marine Corrosion Survey & Assessment

Steel boats collect moisture in the hull and if allowed to remain the frames, stringers and plating begin to rust. Some areas inside the hull are hard or impossible to access. Traditionally, inspectors take a number of hand ultrasound readings to measure the thickness of the hull. They can only cover a small fraction of the hull because of the large surface area resulting in uncertain conclusions. Often small-deteriorated areas go undetected. This can result in expensive emergency dry docks later.

We, on the other hand, take an ultrasound readings every ½” of the underwater hull and other assigned areas. We are able to do this precisely and rapidly with multiple automated robotic scanners. This gives a complete picture of the condition of the hull. The detailed information in our report allows you to make the following informed decisions:

  • Make immediate corrective repairs such replacing metal in the hull
  • Make immediate preventive actions that will save expensive repairs in the future
  • Confidently plan for repairs in areas that are okay now but will need attention later on

The USCG has worked with several side scan companies in the past with contracts valued at less than $150K and the results were mixed. Gladd Solutions on the other hand has never left the Coast Guard in waiting or wishing that we had hired another contractor to perform the work.

There were never any billing issues, quality control issues or personnel issues that prevented Gladd Solutions from completing the contracted work…bottom line business relations with them is exceptional.
